Martin Odegaard expressed discontent following Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Tuesday, January 30. The Gunners’ skipper voiced disappointment over conceding a late goal, preventing them from securing a clean sheet against the hosts.
In his post-match remarks to the media (via Eurosport), he stated:
“The priority was securing the three points. I’m pleased with our overall performance throughout the game. However, it’s frustrating to concede late.” “Considering our dominance, the scoreline should have been more than 2-1. Nevertheless, we acknowledge Forest’s competitiveness and resilience. There are lessons to be learned, but overall, it was a commendable performance.”
Under Mikel Arteta’s guidance, Arsenal climbed to second place in the table with their victory over Forest.
The first half posed challenges for the Gunners as they grappled with the home side’s defensive setup. However, Gabriel Jesus emerged as the game-changer in the second half, breaking the deadlock with a fine finish in the 65th minute. He then set up Bukayo Saka in the 72nd minute to double Arsenal’s lead.
Despite their dominance, Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi managed to score from a cross in the 89th minute, creating tense moments for Arsenal towards the end. Nonetheless, they held on for the win.
Mikel Arteta praised Emile Smith Rowe for his contribution in the victory over Nottingham Forest.
Addressing the media post-match (via Metro), Arteta commended the 23-year-old’s performance and attitude. He remarked:
“I thought he was excellent. He carried his training form onto the pitch, and every opportunity he’s had this season, he’s deserved it.” “He’s been diligent, and hardworking, and his demeanor is exemplary. He’s a talented player; his movement is a delight to watch.”
Smith Rowe operated effectively in a midfield trio alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. He showcased good chemistry with Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko on the left flank before being substituted for Kai Havertz after 71 minutes.
Despite injury setbacks limiting his playing time this season, this match marked only his second league start, with the first coming in a victory over Sheffield United in October.
