The University of Alabama is set to name its field at Bryant-Denny Stadium after Nick Saban, despite his earlier statement that he wouldn’t be coaching at Alabama.

The university’s board of trustees will meet to consider this naming resolution, with Saban being the most likely candidate due to his tenure from 2007 to 2023 and his six national championships with the Crimson Tide.

Before coaching at Alabama, Saban worked as an NFL assistant coach and also coached at Michigan State and LSU. He initially left the college game to coach the Miami Dolphins.

Despite initially denying he would coach at Alabama, Saban went on to achieve unprecedented success with the team.

This decision is somewhat unexpected, as the current trend in college football leans towards monetizing naming rights rather than granting such honors for free.
