Taylor Fritz’s partner, Morgan Riddle, recently shed light on how the tennis star copes with defeats on the court.
Currently, ranked ninth in the world, Fritz stands as the sole American player in the Top 10. With a professional career spanning since September 2015, the 26-year-old has encountered numerous highs and lows along the way.
Achieving a career-best ranking of World No. 5 and securing victory at the 2022 Indian Wells Open are among his notable accomplishments.
Despite these successes, Fritz has yet to reach a Grand Slam semifinal in his 30 main-draw appearances. His recent loss to Novak Djokovic at the 2024 Australian Open underscores this challenge.
In a conversation on the latest episode of the Sportsish podcast, Morgan Riddle shared insights into how Fritz approaches setbacks. She revealed that Fritz maintains a straightforward mindset when confronting losses, often seeking solace in her comforting presence.
“He [Taylor Fritz] can move on from things pretty quickly. I think some guys kind of get upset and shut down, but he just wants me to cuddle him. I appreciate it as opposed to what the opposite could be. But then when you get those big wins it’s all the more special,” she expressed.
Riddle also highlighted the sentiment echoed by Fritz’s coaches, emphasizing his exceptional mental resilience as a crucial asset in tennis.
“Taylor’s fantastic at dealing with it, that’s something that his coaches have always said that he’s so strong mentally, which is so important in tennis. That’s like 70 percent of the game in tennis, the mental strength,” she affirmed.
