Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has been given a five-place grid penalty for the Brazilian Grand Prix after he chose to change his engine again.
This decision could boost McLaren’s Lando Norris in Sunday’s race as he tries to close the gap on Verstappen’s 47-point lead in Formula 1.
The FIA confirmed Verstappen’s penalty on Friday.
In the morning practice session, Verstappen recorded the 15th fastest time, which was one second slower than Norris, who had the fastest time.
In the afternoon, drivers will participate in the sprint race qualifying session.
Each driver is allowed to use four engines during the season.
Verstappen previously received a 10-place grid penalty for exceeding his engine limit at the Belgian Grand Prix in July, marking his fifth penalty of the season.
The three-time F1 champion is currently at the top of the standings with four races remaining.
During a press conference on Thursday, Verstappen expressed uncertainty about whether he would change his engine for the race in Brazil.
