Veteran left tackle Tyron Smith, renowned for his prowess on the gridiron, has charted a new course in the NFL.
Having spent an illustrious 13-year tenure with the Cowboys, Smith is now poised to join the Jets, as per reports from various sources.
In his new role, Smith will assume the critical responsibility of safeguarding the blind side of Aaron Rodgers — unless, of course, Rodgers decides to pivot to a political career by vying for the position of Vice President.
However, the Jets are banking on Rodgers to helm their offense this season and are keen on ensuring his protection, especially after a brief four-play stint last year. Smith’s arrival is expected to fortify their offensive line significantly.
At 33 years of age, Smith boasts an impressive resume, having earned two first-team All-Pro distinctions and secured eight Pro Bowl selections. Furthermore, he clinched a spot on the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2010s, underscoring his status as one of the premier offensive linemen of his era.
His selection by the Cowboys with the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft proved to be a masterstroke, and the decision to ink him to an eight-year contract in 2014 was equally astute. However, following his departure from the Cowboys earlier this offseason, Smith is embarking on a new chapter in his storied career with the Jets.
