Following the tragic death of rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson earlier this month, the Minnesota Vikings are taking significant steps to honor his memory. Jackson, who was only 24 years old, died in a car accident on July 6, along with two other individuals.

In response to this loss, the Vikings are committing to paying the remainder of Jackson’s signing bonus, which amounts to $206,787 for the 2024 season. This gesture reflects the team’s dedication to supporting Jackson’s estate during this difficult time.

In addition to the financial support, the Vikings are implementing various tributes throughout the 2024 season. Coaches will wear special pins, and players will sport helmet decals featuring Jackson’s initials, “KJ.”

Furthermore, Jackson’s No. 31 jersey will be retired and will not be worn by any player in the future, ensuring that his memory is preserved within the organization.

The Vikings are also assisting with Jackson’s funeral expenses, which are scheduled for this Friday. Key members of the Vikings’ staff, including general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, head coach Kevin O’Connell, and defensive coordinator Brian Flores, will be present at the service to pay their respects.

This display of solidarity underscores the impact Jackson had on the team and the respect he earned from his colleagues.

Jackson was a fourth-round draft pick in this year’s NFL Draft and had been showing promise. Prior to joining the Vikings, he played college football at Oregon, where he excelled in the 2023 season.

His performance included 34 tackles, seven pass breakups, three interceptions, and two sacks, which earned him a spot on the All-Pac-12 first team.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed deep sorrow over Jackson’s passing, highlighting the young player’s vibrant personality and dedication both on and off the field.

O’Connell described Jackson as someone who brought a contagious energy to the team and was on a path to becoming a great professional player. The heartfelt tribute from O’Connell and the team’s actions reflect the profound impact Jackson made in his brief time with the Vikings.
