In a 122-114 win against the Washington Wizards on Saturday, both Golden State Warriors stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green left the game injured. Green’s status is uncertain as he will undergo an MRI on Sunday to check the extent of his injury.
Curry injured his left ankle in the final minute and left for the locker room before the game ended. He scored 26 points and reassured fans that he plans to play against the Boston Celtics on Monday. “Feels great,” Curry said about his ankle after the game. “See you on Monday.”
Green’s situation appears more concerning. He left the game just three minutes into the first quarter due to left calf tightness and was ruled out shortly after. He returned to the bench but was seen limping while walking. Warriors coach Steve Kerr stated that Green will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
“Steph told me he doesn’t think it’s serious,” Kerr said. “They will both be day-to-day for now. We don’t really know [with Green]. We will have to wait and see what the MRI shows tomorrow. Just kind of assess him the next couple of days and figure out what’s next.”
The Warriors, with a 21-20 record, have faced numerous injuries this season. Curry has been dealing with a thumb injury on his shooting hand and knee pain for much of the year. Green, who just returned from a three-game absence due to illness and a back issue, might now miss more time. He was averaging 8.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.6 assists before Saturday’s game.
In addition to Green’s potential absence, the Warriors are also without Jonathan Kuminga, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury since January 4. Guard Brandin Podziemski is also out due to an abdominal injury, and Kyle Anderson missed Saturday’s game because of a glute injury.
Despite a strong start to the season at 12-3, the Warriors have been struggling, with Saturday’s win marking their second consecutive victory and only their ninth win in the last 26 games.
Looking ahead, the Warriors will face the Boston Celtics on Monday, then play the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. They will return home to play the Chicago Bulls on Thursday and the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.
