After a three-year absence, tight end Zach Ertz is poised to return to the NFC East. According to a report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on Wednesday morning, Ertz has agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders, potentially worth up to $5 million.
The 33-year-old veteran spent the years 2021 to 2023 with the Arizona Cardinals.
During his tenure with the Cardinals, Ertz played under coach Kliff Kingsbury for parts of two seasons. Interestingly, the Commanders recently hired Kingsbury as their offensive coordinator on February 5.
In the 2023 season, Ertz accumulated 27 receptions for 187 yards and one touchdown in seven games. However, his time with the Cardinals came to an end when he was waived by the team on November 30 due to a quadriceps injury that had him placed on the injured reserve list.
Ertz is most renowned for his successful stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he earned Pro Bowl honors every year from 2017 to 2019. Additionally, he clinched a Super Bowl victory with the Eagles in 2017 and recorded his only 1,000-yard receiving season the following year.
