Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. will not play in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a hamstring injury.
Robinson was officially ruled out on Friday. This marks the second straight game he will miss, as he was also a late scratch last week for the game against the New York Giants.
The 25-year-old running back had already missed a game on October 13 against the Baltimore Ravens due to a knee injury, which was the Commanders’ only loss since the season opener. So far this season, Robinson has rushed for 461 yards and scored six touchdowns on 101 carries over seven games.
In Robinson’s absence, running backs Austin Ekeler, Jeremy McNichols, and Chris Rodriguez Jr. are expected to share the workload.
On the defensive side, Washington (7-2) will also be without cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who was acquired from the New Orleans Saints earlier this week during the NFL trade deadline. Lattimore has been dealing with a hamstring injury he suffered in a game last month with the Saints.
Lattimore mentioned that he is unsure when he will be able to play for the Commanders.
“That’s up to the trainers,” Lattimore said on Wednesday. “The injury just happened, so I don’t really know what’s going on as far as a timetable or getting back on the field. It’s up to them.”
For the Steelers (6-2), linebacker Nick Herbig (hamstring) and safety Terrell Edmunds (illness) will not play. Special teams players Tyler Matakevich (hamstring) and Ben Skowronek (shoulder) are listed as questionable.
Rookie center Zach Frazier will start in place of the injured starter, missing two games with an ankle issue. Kick returner and running back Cordarrelle Patterson is expected to play for the first time since a loss to the Indianapolis Colts on September 29.
Quarterback Justin Fields is healthy enough to back up Russell Wilson for the Steelers. Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been cleared of any injury concerns and is no longer on the injury report after playing through sore ribs in the last few games.
