According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze is anticipated to participate in the scouting combine leading up to the 2024 NFL draft.
Odunze showcased an outstanding performance in 2023 as the primary wideout for Washington, a team that reached the College Football Playoff National Championship game. He racked up impressive statistics with 1,640 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, earning him recognition as a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award.
His decision to engage in the combine comes as a bit unexpected, especially when considering that other top wide receiver prospects in the draft, such as Marvin Harrison Jr. from Ohio State and Malik Nabers from LSU, have opted out of the testing, as noted by Rapoport.

At 21 years old, Odunze possesses notable speed, enabling him to challenge opposing defenses deep downfield. Additionally, his towering 6’3″ stature allows him to excel in contested catch situations. Leading the Pac-12 with 92 receptions and boasting an average of 17.8 yards per catch, Odunze’s performance stood out among his peers.
In a scouting report by B/R NFL Scout Derrik Klassen, Odunze’s proficiency in route-running and his ability to secure catches across a wide radius were emphasized.
Klassen described him as a reliable target who can simplify a quarterback’s job, capable of operating both as a traditional X receiver and occasionally in the slot due to his football IQ and adeptness in traffic.
Observers eagerly anticipate Odunze’s 40-yard dash time at the combine, as a strong showing could potentially elevate his draft stock above competitors like Nabers in the eyes of certain NFL front offices.
