Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher suggests that Manchester City may now have the upper hand in the title race following Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over the Reds on Sunday (February 4).
The Gunners’ triumph at the Emirates Stadium narrowed the gap between themselves and the league leaders to just two points. Meanwhile, Manchester City, who have two games in hand, sit five points adrift of the top spot.
In the wake of Arsenal’s significant win, Carragher joined pundits Gary Neville and Roy Keane to discuss the implications for the title race. Carragher expressed his belief that the result might benefit Manchester City more than Arsenal, stating (via Daily Mail):
“While Arsenal’s victory puts them back in contention, I believe it’s a more favorable outcome for Manchester City than for the Gunners. You mentioned earlier that you think Arsenal might have an edge over Klopp’s side, and Liverpool are more clinical.”
“In my view, Manchester City will see Liverpool as a major threat for the title because of our experience and the players we have who have achieved it before. So, for me, tonight’s result suggests that the biggest winners are Manchester City.”
Last season, it was Arsenal who posed the greatest challenge to Manchester City’s title bid, leading the race for 248 days before ultimately falling short by five points.
Liverpool were the last team to snatch the Premier League title from Manchester City’s grasp, achieving the feat in the 2019/20 season.
