Forty games without losing, and Bayer Leverkusen, led by Xabi Alonso, is having an extraordinary season.
With Bayern Munich’s coach conceding defeat in the Bundesliga title race last week, Leverkusen is comfortably ahead by 13 points with only seven games left.
They have a chance to move closer to winning their first league trophy when they play against Union Berlin on Saturday.
There’s even the possibility of achieving an undefeated season in the Bundesliga, a feat no club has ever accomplished.
Their recent 4-0 victory against Fortuna Duesseldorf in the German Cup semifinals means Leverkusen is just one win away from clinching another trophy in the final next month. Additionally, Alonso’s team is set to face West Ham in the Europa League quarterfinals next week.
