The San Francisco 49ers have inked a deal with special teams player Chase Lucas

The San Francisco 49ers have added to their special teams unit by signing Chase Lucas to a one-year contract, as Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported.

While Lucas is primarily listed as a cornerback, he didn’t see any defensive snaps last season. However, he made significant contributions to special teams, logging 230 plays and excelling as the punt gunner for the Lions.

Despite his valuable role, the Lions opted not to retain him in free agency, possibly due to allocating resources towards other special teams players like Jalen Reeves-Maybin, who became the league’s highest-paid core special teams player.

With Lucas joining the 49ers, the team anticipates his impact on their kicking game for the upcoming season.
