Zion Williamson, during the New Orleans Pelicans’ push for the playoffs, faces a finger injury. The injury occurred while he was blocking a shot just before halftime in the Pelicans’ loss to Orlando on Wednesday night.
“It just hit the backboard hard,” Williamson explained.
Although Williamson continued playing after the injury, he eventually left the game’s final minutes. Coach Willie Green expressed concern about Williamson’s condition, especially since the team was already missing Brandon Ingram due to a knee injury.
With only six games left, the Pelicans hold the sixth spot in the Western Conference standings by a narrow margin. However, Williamson’s health remains crucial for their postseason hopes.
Williamson has had his best season so far, playing in 65 games and leading the team in scoring with an average of nearly 23 points per game. His improved fitness and performance have been a stark contrast to his injury-plagued early years in the NBA.
Despite recent losses, Williamson remains optimistic, urging his teammates to stay focused for the remaining games. The Pelicans hope for his swift recovery as they face San Antonio next.
