Stan Collymore says Brennan Johnson shouldn’t leave Nottingham Forest for Tottenham Hotspur on the last day of the summer transfer window.
The one-time Nottingham Forest striker told CaughtOffSide that Brennan Johnson should wait before going to Tottenham Hotspur.
Collymore, however, believes that the 22-year-old Wales forward cannot stay at Forest. The pundit has described the young player’s qualities and praised him. Fabrizio Romano says that Johnson has agreed to join Spurs today.
The Italian reporter stated on Twitter that Johnson will complete medical tests at Tottenham and will transfer to the North London club for £45 million deal.
Brennan Johnson Has Been Advised to Say No to Joining Tottenham Hotspur
Collymore wrote, “According to recent reports, it seems Brennan Johnson is getting closer to a transfer from Nottingham Forest to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day.”
“He’s a player who’s caught the attention of many club scouts. Brentford is keen on him and willing to break their club’s transfer record. Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Aston Villa have been showing interest for a while now, which indicates he’s highly rated.”
“He’s a fast player, creative, with goal-scoring skills. His goal-scoring record at Forest, which I believe is about one in every three games, may not be the best. However, if you place him in a stronger team that holds more possession and creates more opportunities, I believe his goal returns will improve. Nevertheless, I believe a move this summer is too early for him.”
“I believe he should stick with Nottingham Forest for at least one more season. He’s from Nottingham, his father played for the club, and he has come a long way through the club’s academy, so he’s very familiar with the setup at the club.”
“I think he should say no to any transfer this summer and rather focus on developing his skills during the 2023-24 season. By doing so, he can improve his game before considering to move on in his career. If he reaches his full potential, he won’t have to worry about getting a big transfer; the opportunities will come. Besides, he might have better options than joining Spurs.”
Moving from Forest to Tottenham would be a positive step for Johnson, and we think he’s making the right decision today.
Of course, it might be hard to play always for Tottenham at first, but the Wales international should have a deep belief in his skills and have faith in himself.
What are the Chances?
The chances to join Tottenham don’t come around all the time.
It’s tempting to play for a big club that always challenges for UEFA Champions League spots in the Premier League.
Tottenham has one of the best stadiums and training amenities in the world.
With the new head coach, Ange Postecoglou, there’s hope for success on the field.
