The Atlanta Braves have extended the contract of President of baseball operations, Alex Anthopoulos, through 2031. This move comes as no surprise, considering Anthopoulos’ success in securing top players for the team over the past decade.
Braves chairman and CEO of Braves Holdings, LLC, Terry McGuirk, expressed his satisfaction with the extension, stating, “Alex and I have enjoyed a wonderful working relationship, and I look forward to that continuing for many years to come. There is simply no one better in the business. This extension gives Alex the runway to make long-term decisions and the opportunity to continue his track record of assembling teams that are perennial contenders.”

Despite the challenging circumstances, Anthopoulos has led the team to success, winning the National League East in each of his six seasons with the Braves. The highlight of his tenure came in 2021 when the Braves won the World Series, even without star player Ronald Acuña Jr., who suffered a season-ending injury.
Expressing his gratitude, Anthopoulos said, “I’d like to thank Terry for his continued support and trust. The Braves are an incredible organization to be a part of, and I’m proud of the success we’ve achieved together. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead baseball operations and to strive to bring another World Series to Atlanta.”
Anthopoulos’ strategic vision has positioned the Braves as an elite team for years to come. He has secured long-term contracts for young stars such as Acuña and Ozzie Albies, ensuring their presence on the team until at least 2027. Additionally, players like Austin Riley, Matt Olson, Spencer Strider, Sean Murphy, and Michael Harris II are also set to remain with the club for several more years.
With this contract extension, Anthopoulos will continue to lead the Braves and work towards bringing championship baseball to Atlanta.
