The Finals 1.5.5 Patch Notes have taken fans by surprise with unexpected nerfs for the defibrillator, aiming to address the growing prevalence of the “revive meta” that many players have been exploiting in-game.
Embark Studios’ free-to-play competitive FPS, The Finals, initially launched with a substantial player base on Steam, and it continues to maintain its popularity, partially attributed to its destructible environments.
In response to the prevalent abuse of the “revive meta,” the developers have implemented changes to reduce the period of invulnerability after a revive, now set at 0.75 seconds instead of the previous 1.5 seconds.
Adjustments have been made to specific weapons like the .357 revolver, CL40, and FCAR. The Guardian turret and MGL32 also undergo balance changes in this latest update.
Following the introduction of the Solo Bank It Mode in the 1.5.0 update, the developers have focused on weapon balance changes in this patch, which, although light on content drops, includes significant bug fixes, crash fixes, and quality-of-life improvements.
A feature aimed at enhancing matchmaking has also been deployed in the update, which is scheduled to go live today.
The widely employed “revive meta” strategy involved players purchasing defibrillators to revive fallen teammates and exploiting the invulnerability boost post-revival.
While The Finals has maintained its popularity on Steam since launch, there has been a slight decline in the overall player count. However, the game’s high player count doesn’t necessarily indicate a decline in its overall appeal.
Patch 1.5.5 introduces weapon balance changes, including adjustments to the .357 Revolver, CL-40, FCAR, Guardian Turret, MGL32, and Throwing Knives.
A new Contam Couture Set, featuring a gas mask, yellow hazard suit, and a shovel charm, has been added as a content-related inclusion. The update also brings various quality-of-life improvements.
Embark Studios addresses the Recon senses ability for the medium class in the patch notes, acknowledging that it will undergo an overhaul in the coming weeks.
This ability, currently allowing players to see through walls, is slated for modification to avoid providing an unfair advantage similar to a ‘wallhack.’
The remainder of the update includes the standard bug and crash fixes, ensuring a smooth and glitch-free gaming experience across all available platforms.
GPU-related crashes have been addressed, and matchmaking configurations in Tournament and Ranked Tournament modes have been adjusted to pair players with similar skill ratings.
