After a tough exit from the Australian Open 2024, Coco Gauff received a boost from her mother, Candi, who helped lift her spirits.
Gauff’s journey in Melbourne concluded with a 7-6(2), 6-4 loss to Belarusia’s Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. Despite the disappointment, Gauff showcased impressive resilience throughout the tournament.
In the quarterfinals, Gauff faced a formidable challenge from Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, battling for more than three hours to secure a hard-fought 7-6(6), 6-7(3), 6-2 victory.
Prior to the Kostyuk clash, Gauff cruised through her matches with straight-set victories, defeating opponents like Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, Caroline Dolehide, Alycia Parks, and Magdalena Frech.
Following her semifinal defeat, Gauff took to Instagram to express her gratitude to her supporters and reflect on her journey, emphasizing her determination to continue evolving and returning stronger.
“Reminding myself that I’m still evolving. Time to get back to work and come back stronger. Thank you @australianopen for the memories this year and thank you everyone for their support,” she wrote in a post.
Candi Gauff, who was present in the stands for every match at Melbourne Park, added her words of encouragement, praising her daughter’s phenomenal efforts.
“You did phenomenal,” Candi wrote, echoing the sentiments of support for Gauff.
Despite narrowly missing out on a chance to ascend to the second spot in the world rankings, Gauff remained positive, reflecting on her overall achievements, including her triumph at the US Open 2023.
“I am really proud of myself. I did want to win a Slam as a teenager, and I did that. Today I was hoping to get No. 2, or at least give myself a chance to get No. 2. It didn’t happen, but I feel like I’m there, yeah. So hopefully I can only go upwards from here,” Coco Gauff added, maintaining her optimistic outlook for the future.
