Jamie O’Hara has unleashed scathing criticism on Chelsea, branding them an embarrassment following their dismal defensive performance in a 4-2 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 4.

Wolves shocked the Blues with a Matheus Cunha hat-trick and Axel Disasi’s own goal, while Mauricio Pochettino’s side could only manage goals through Cole Palmer and Thiago Silva.

The defeat was a complete disaster for Chelsea, severely damaging their hopes of European qualification as they plummeted to 11th in the league, now 15 points adrift of the top four.

O’Hara, while covering the game on Sky Sports, expressed disbelief at Chelsea’s underperformance despite having a talented squad at Pochettino’s disposal:

Jamie O’Hara

“It’s not rocket science… they’re good players some of these. (Moises) Caicedo was a perfect player at Brighton. Enzo Fernandez has won a World Cup. Conor Gallagher, Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, Nkunku… Thiago Silva, (Ben) Chilwell plays for England. You can’t tell me this team can’t play a decent style of football.”

Expressing sympathy for Chelsea supporters who voiced their frustration by booing, O’Hara characterized the team’s display as shameful:

“They are miles off it. It’s embarrassing to watch. I’m not a Chelsea fan, but i’d be disgusted being a fan watching that week in week out. They’re just walking around the football pitch.”

Despite Chelsea’s lavish spending, including breaking the British transfer record for signings like Fernandez (£106.8 million) and Caicedo (£115 million) since Todd Boehly’s co-ownership in May 2022, the team still lacks a coherent playing identity under Pochettino, who faces mounting pressure with 15 wins and 11 defeats in 31 games in charge.
