Streaking UFC middleweight Sharabutdin Magomedov has issued a bold challenge to perennial 185-pound contender Marvin Vettori, despite the significant gap in their rankings within the division. Vettori, currently ranked No. 5 and a former title challenger, stands as a formidable opponent.
In contrast, Magomedov remains unranked, having recently secured a victory in his promotional debut. However, ‘Shara Bullet’ remains undeterred by the disparity in their rankings, asserting that once he faces Vettori, their respective standings will hold little significance in light of his superior skills.
Magomedov’s challenge was shared on X/Twitter, where it’s likely to garner attention. He stated, “Vettori. His being ranked Top 5 says nothing to me. When I start beating him up, my knuckles, my elbows, and my knees, I won’t care what he’s ranked.”
Despite his eagerness to prove himself, it’s improbable that the 29-year-old Dagestani will immediately face such a highly-ranked opponent, given his current unranked status. Additionally, concerns arise from his defensive wrestling displayed in his fight against Bruno Silva at UFC 294, though his performance showed promise.
On the other hand, Vettori boasts a proven track record in the middleweight division, having challenged elite competitors in his pursuit of the championship title, which has eluded him thus far.
Despite his recent unsuccessful attempt against Israel Adesanya, Vettori remains resolute in his determination and continues to aim high in his quest to ascend the division ranks. Consequently, it’s improbable that Magomedov features prominently on Vettori’s radar at this time.
