In a recent interview with the High-Performance podcast, Ngannou reflected on his upcoming fight with Joshua, expressing a mix of confidence and respect. “They say never say never. Nothing is impossible, right?” he remarked.
“We don’t know the strength of Anthony Joshua, but even though I don’t believe he has that strength, we’re going to find out in two months. I’m going to be the one taking his soul.”
Although his clash with Tyson Fury last October ended in defeat on the scorecards, Ngannou chooses to focus on the significance of the moment rather than the outcome. “I mean, I won,” he asserted. “Look at my life. Look at where I was when you think I lost. You think because some foolish judges make some decision, that changes anything in my life?”
For Ngannou, the bout represented the realization of a childhood dream, a moment of triumph against doubters and naysayers. “The dream that I was carrying since I was a kid, I was that night living that dream. On top of the world, I was there,” he recalled.
“For all the people that [have] been doubting me, I was there proving them wrong. For everybody that ever looked down at me, I was there proving them wrong.”
Despite the disappointment of not receiving a favorable decision, Ngannou finds solace in the journey and the opportunities it has afforded him. “I have won everything,” he declared. “From that fight, I won this fight. I won everything. I won everything that night in that fight.”
