Martina Navratilova reiterates her steadfast stance against transgender women athletes competing alongside biological women in women’s sports.
A recent viral video circulating on social media platform X showcased transgender women athletes participating in various sports, including swimming, golf, basketball, racing, boxing, and weightlifting. Among them was Lia Thomas, a prominent trans woman swimmer.
Navratilova, upon viewing the video, shared her disapproval on her official X account, echoing the sentiments of several women athletes who have voiced concerns about the inclusion of trans women in female sports categories.
In response to the video, the 18-time Grand Slam champion simply stated, “Not ok.”
This tweet followed Navratilova’s previous criticism of transgender high jumper Maelle Jacques, who secured victory at the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (NHIAA) indoor track and field championship.
Navratilova expressed her belief that instances like Jacques’ win highlight the urgent need for rule changes to prevent women’s sports from being dominated by individuals she perceives as “failed male athletes.”
“And I will keep saying this as nauseum until the rules change – women’s sports are not a place for failed male athletes,” Navratilova emphasized on X.
