Nick Allegretti, the offensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs, showed his unwavering determination by playing through a significant injury during Super Bowl 58.
Filling in for the injured Joe Thuney, Allegretti stepped up and played every snap of the championship game despite suffering a torn UCL in the second quarter. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Allegretti’s remarkable feat, highlighting his grit and commitment to his team.
The news was seemingly confirmed by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who commended Allegretti’s resilience in a post on social media platform X. Mahomes’ praise underscored Allegretti’s toughness and dedication to his teammates.

Thuney, a First Team All-Pro selection in 2023, was sidelined for the Super Bowl due to a pectoral muscle injury sustained in the divisional round against the Buffalo Bills. This absence provided Allegretti with the opportunity to showcase his skills on the grandest stage of football.
Allegretti had previously filled in for Thuney during the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, where he played every offensive snap.
Despite being drafted in the seventh round from Illinois in 2019, Allegretti has proven himself as a valuable asset to the Chiefs, contributing to their success with three Super Bowl championships.
His achievements also set a record for former Illinois players in the NFL. However, as Allegretti approaches free agency in the offseason, his torn UCL injury might impact his prospects of securing a lucrative contract for the 2024 season.
With Thuney and Trey Smith contracted as guards for the Chiefs in the upcoming season, Allegretti’s future with the team remains uncertain.
While Kansas City may prioritize retaining his services, Allegretti’s stellar performance could attract interest from other teams seeking reinforcement on the offensive line during the offseason frenzy of free agency.
