Barcelona is reportedly taking steps to secure the future of star defender Ronald Araujo amidst increasing interest from top European clubs. According to Marca via Barca Universal, the Catalan club is prepared to offer the Uruguayan international an enticing contract extension until either 2029 or 2030, coupled with a significant salary raise.
Araujo has emerged as a vital figure for Barcelona in recent years, drawing attention from several prominent clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United. Bayern Munich, in particular, is rumored to be willing to make a substantial offer exceeding €100 million to acquire his services.
However, Barcelona is adamant about retaining Araujo and is actively working on warding off potential suitors by initiating contract negotiations. Club director Deco reportedly held discussions with Araujo’s agents, Edmundo Kabchi and Edoardo Crnjar, to explore the possibility of a new deal.
The club is poised to engage in final contract talks with the 24-year-old Uruguayan, whose current contract runs until 2026. Barcelona aims to secure his long-term commitment with a lucrative offer, ensuring his presence at Camp Nou for the foreseeable future.
Araujo’s defensive prowess has earned him acclaim as one of the premier defenders in his age bracket, thriving under the guidance of manager Xavi Hernandez. While primarily excelling as a center-back, the versatile defender has also demonstrated his capabilities in the right-back position when called upon.
