UFC welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry is eager to set the record straight ahead of his upcoming bout at UFC 298 tomorrow night against Geoff Neal.
This match marks a re-booking after their initial showdown was postponed last August due to Geoff Neal’s injury. Instead, Garry went on to claim victory against short-notice replacement Neil Magny.
In recent times, Ian Machado Garry has found himself at the center of discussions within the UFC, though not always for reasons he’d prefer.
Various figures, including Sean Strickland, have frequently criticized the Irish fighter. Regrettably, the criticism hasn’t been limited to his fighting prowess but has extended to his personal life, particularly his marriage to Layla Machado Garry.
The couple tied the knot in February 2022, sparking considerable media attention. Critics, like ‘Tarzan’ among others, have raised objections to Ian Machado Garry’s decisions, highlighting the significant age gap between him and Layla, as well as his choice to enlist Layla’s ex-husband as his nutritionist and adopt her surname.
In a recent interview with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Ian Machado Garry took the opportunity to address these concerns head-on.
He vehemently refuted comments made by Sean Strickland and others about his wife, stressing that he’s committed to being a good husband and ensuring his actions do not hinder the relationship between Layla and her son from a previous marriage.
Garry clarified that he enlisted Layla’s ex-husband as his nutritionist to maintain a positive co-parenting dynamic and to ensure the well-being of their child.
“I want to be a good human, I want to be a good man, and I never want to be a wedge between a father and a son,” Garry expressed during the interview. “I know that if someone were to come between me and my son, I would be furious. I refuse to let that happen. My wife’s past is her own, and I respect that. I refuse to let it interfere with the well-being of her child.”
Garry emphasized his commitment to understanding the complexities of blended families, asserting that he prioritizes the happiness and stability of Layla’s child above all else.
