David de Gea, former Manchester United goalkeeper and captain, is reportedly awaiting an offer from his homeland as he considers his next career move. According to The Mirror, the 33-year-old is keen to finish playing in Spain.

De Gea has been without a club since departing Manchester United last summer when his contract expired. Despite interest from various Premier League and Saudi Arabian clubs, the former Spain international remains a free agent.

Reports suggest that De Gea is exclusively eyeing a return to Spain and has declined offers from abroad. His preference is believed to be rejoining his childhood club, Atlético Madrid, and he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a move to a rival club, Real Madrid.

Having emerged from Atlético Madrid’s youth system, De Gea amassed 84 appearances for Los Colchoneros before joining Manchester United in 2011.

During his tenure at Old Trafford, he solidified his status as a club icon, featuring in 545 matches for the Red Devils.

De Gea’s time at Manchester United was marked by significant success, clinching eight trophies including the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League, and two League Cups. He earned prestigious accolades such as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year, each on four occasions.

In his latter years at the club, De Gea faced criticism for occasional errors and doubts regarding his ball-playing abilities. Following the expiration of his contract last summer, Manchester United opted to bring in Andre Onana as his replacement, though Onana is yet to win over the fans fully.
