Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs secured a thrilling victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58, showcasing remarkable composure under pressure. One of the key highlights of the game revolved around the overtime rules.
After winning the coin toss, the 49ers opted for the first possession. However, many of their players seemed unaware of the revised playoff rules introduced in 2022.
On his podcast, “New Heights,” hosted alongside his brother Jason Kelce, Travis praised Mike Frazier, the Chiefs’ statistical analysis coordinator, for diligently educating the team about overtime regulations and strategic approaches throughout the playoffs.
“Mike Frazier is the man,” Kelce expressed. “He meticulously outlines various scenarios, including critical moments, end-of-half and end-of-game situations, and rule modifications. Whenever he addresses the team, there’s a resounding chorus of ‘Fraaaaz!'”
Kelce further revealed that Frazier meticulously walked the team through different hypothetical situations to ensure they were well-prepared.
“Every single week during the playoffs, we delved into overtime rules,” Kelce elaborated. “Frazier was upfront, detailing our approach to each scenario. Consequently, everyone on the team was well-versed in our strategies and how to navigate potential challenges.”
