Iga Świątek recently responded to a meme marking her 91st week as the World No. 1.
Swiatek ascended to the top of the WTA singles rankings on April 4, 2022, commencing an impressive 75-week stint as the World No. 1. This achievement placed her third in the history of the WTA Tour for the longest initial reign, surpassed only by Steffi Graf (186 weeks) and Martina Hingis (80 weeks).
However, Swiatek’s defeat to Jeļena Ostapenko in the fourth round of the 2023 US Open brought an end to her reign, with Aryna Sabalenka taking over the top spot after the tournament.
Swiatek reclaimed the World No. 1 ranking in November 2023, following her quarterfinal run at the Japan Open and victories at the China Open and the WTA Finals.
As of February 12, 2024, Swiatek completed her 90th week as the World No. 1. Recently, a fan account shared a meme featuring two contrasting images of Swiatek.
One showed her appearing disheveled, sad, and tired with the caption “It’s Monday tomorrow,” while the other depicted her looking fresh and relaxed with the caption “Starts her 91st week as No. 1.”
The meme humorously highlighted the transition between weeks in Swiatek’s remarkable tenure as the top-ranked player. In response to the meme, the World No. 1 took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote:
“Choose your fighter…”
