In the third annual HBCU Legacy Bowl, North Carolina Central quarterback Davius Richard showcased his skills in limited action, contributing significantly to Team Gaither’s 10-6 victory over Team Robinson.

Yulman Stadium in New Orleans played host to draft-eligible players from historically Black colleges and universities, offering them a platform to display their talents to professional organizations. Named after esteemed coaches Jake Gaither and Eddie Robinson, the Legacy Bowl featured intense competition and memorable moments.

Richard wasted no time making an impact, spearheading Team Gaither’s offense with precision. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year orchestrated a methodical drive, culminating in a touchdown.

Despite his impressive start, Richard’s momentum was halted by a leg injury sustained during a scoring play. Despite this setback, his performance earned him the Offensive MVP accolade.

Team Gaither’s defense was formidable throughout the game, stifling Team Robinson’s offense for three quarters. Led by South Carolina State defensive lineman Jeblonski Green Jr., who consistently applied pressure on opposing quarterbacks and disrupted passing lanes, Team Gaither maintained control.

Team Robinson, though facing adversity, showcased remarkable talent. Defensive end Zareon Hayes from Alabama A&M stood out, earning the Defensive MVP title with a stellar performance, including four sacks. Benedict College’s Loobert Denelus demonstrated his prowess with a pivotal strip sack and fumble recovery.

In a late surge, Team Robinson attempted a comeback led by Florida A&M quarterback Jeremy Moussa. Despite Moussa’s impressive pass to Grambling State wide receiver Lyndon Rash for a touchdown, Team Robinson fell short as time dwindled.

Ultimately, Team Gaither secured the victory, successfully running out the clock to seal the win. The Legacy Bowl provided a platform for these talented athletes to shine, underscoring the rich pool of talent within historically Black colleges and universities.
