Former Rice wide receiver Luke McCaffrey may not carry the same level of fame as his brother, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. Unlike Christian, who made headlines during his three-year stint at Stanford and was a top contender for the Heisman Trophy in 2015, Luke initially faced challenges in his football journey.

After a brief and unsuccessful tenure as a quarterback at Nebraska, Luke made a pivotal decision to transfer to Rice University and switch positions.

The outcome of this change was remarkable: Luke showcased his skills with a 723-yard season in 2022 followed by a 922-yard season in 2023, earning him a coveted invitation to the NFL scouting combine in 2024.

On Saturday, Luke underscored his NFL potential by surpassing his brother’s time in the 40-yard dash.

The NFL Network provided a compelling comparison, overlaying videos of the McCaffrey brothers’ runs separated by seven years, confirming Luke’s marginally faster time—4.47 seconds compared to Christian’s 4.48 seconds.

The McCaffrey family boasts a legacy of speed and athleticism, evident in the achievements of all four of former NFL wide receiver Ed McCaffrey’s sons—Christian, Luke, Miami Dolphins offensive assistant Max, and former Michigan quarterback Dylan—who have excelled in skill positions at the FBS level.
