The Vikings have parted ways with their top rusher from 2023. Minnesota announced the release of running back Alexander Mattison on Monday.
A third-round pick in 2019, Mattison took over as the starting running back last season but lost the role later on. He finished the season with 700 rushing yards, averaging 3.9 yards per carry.
While he did not score a rushing touchdown, he contributed with 30 receptions for 192 yards and three receiving touchdowns.
The move to release Mattison will provide the Vikings with $3.35 million in cap savings.
In his 75-game career, Mattison has amassed 2,370 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He has also caught 100 passes for 718 yards and six receiving touchdowns.
