The NFL’s announcement before the Super Bowl indicated that the Eagles would serve as the home team for the league’s Week One game in Brazil. However, Browns defensive tackle Maurice Hurst revealed during an appearance on the team’s Cleveland Browns Daily Show that the Browns will be the visiting team for the matchup.
“We’re playing in Brazil this year,” Hurst stated.
Although this statement wasn’t treated as an official announcement, it seemed to be common knowledge among those affiliated with the team. Officially, the NFL has yet to confirm the identity of the Eagles’ opponent for the game.
This isn’t the first instance of speculation regarding the Browns facing the Eagles in Brazil. A month earlier, Peter King expressed confidence in the matchup, writing, “Feeling good about Cleveland-Philadelphia in Brazil on the evening of Friday, Sept. 6.”
For this unique Brazil event, the NFL has scheduled a Friday game in Week One. The 2024 NFL season will commence with the Super Bowl champion Chiefs hosting a game on Thursday night, followed by the Brazil game on Friday, and then the regular Sunday and Monday night games.
While the schedule hasn’t been officially released, it appears that Browns-Eagles is the frontrunner for the Week One kickoff.
