A past filled with dropped passes has turned into a pattern of clutch catches during important playoff games. Despite this, the Chiefs decided not to keep receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. However, the Chargers are now considering giving him an opportunity.

Reported by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN and cited by USA Today, the Chargers have shown interest in Valdes-Scantling. The 29-year-old began his career with four seasons in Green Bay before spending the last two with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he won two Super Bowls. However, the Chiefs opted not to retain him for the 2024 season, unwilling to pay his $12 million salary.

In his first regular season with the Chiefs, Valdes-Scantling amassed 687 receiving yards on 42 catches. However, his production dipped last year, with only 315 yards on 21 receptions.

Despite these stats, Valdes-Scantling made crucial catches in important games, including during the divisional round win against Buffalo and the AFC Championship against Baltimore. He also scored a touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII.

With the Chargers releasing Mike Williams and trading Keenan Allen, they have clear gaps in the receiving corps. Valdes-Scantling is one of the few recognizable options available.

Valdes-Scantling recently praised Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, possibly to boost his job prospects. However, it seems the Jets have shifted away from their plan of recruiting Rodgers’ former teammates and friends.
