The Chargers are now in their offseason program, and they’re also working on creating their new offense with the help of offensive coordinator Greg Roman.
Andy Bischoff, who’s in charge of the run game, explained what they’re aiming for when he talked to reporters. Roman had previously built a successful offense around Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, but now with the Chargers, he’s working with a different kind of quarterback, Justin Herbert.
Bischoff described Herbert as a very smart player and mentioned that they wanted to design a special offense to make the most of his skills.
During a team meeting, Roman used the word “epic” to describe their plans and emphasized the idea of doing something unique and unprecedented. He stressed the importance of focusing on the present moment and creating something special for the Chargers.
Bischoff and Marcus Brady, who oversees the passing game, both emphasized the importance of having a strong running game alongside Herbert.
They also highlighted the importance of creating an environment where offensive linemen would want to play, suggesting that drafting a tackle with their fifth pick might be a priority. However, they also recognize the need to bolster the receiving group to support Herbert effectively.
