Xabi Alonso, the coach of Bayer Leverkusen, wants his team to stay focused despite being so close to winning a historic title.
Leverkusen hasn’t lost a game in 42 matches this season and could secure their first Bundesliga championship with a win against Werder Bremen on Sunday.
Alonso emphasized that every game is important and didn’t want to discuss celebrations or the significance of winning the title out of respect for their opponents.
While there’s a chance they could become champions if other teams lose, Alonso prefers to win on the field. Leverkusen has a comfortable lead in the Bundesliga and is also competing in the German Cup final and the Europa League quarterfinals.
The upcoming game against Werder Bremen will be significant for German soccer fans, but Bayern Munich’s coach, Thomas Tuchel, mentioned he won’t be watching as he’ll be focusing on Bayern’s upcoming Champions League match against Arsenal.
