Lucas Raymond scored with just 25 seconds left in overtime and also tied the game with 1:17 remaining in regulation, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a thrilling 5-4 comeback victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night. This win keeps their hopes of making the playoffs alive.

J.T. Compher, who scored two goals for Detroit, emphasized that the win only gives them a chance to keep fighting for a playoff spot.

For the Red Wings to secure a playoff berth, they need to win against Montreal while hoping Washington loses against Philadelphia in Tuesday night’s game.

Despite facing preseason doubts, Detroit coach Derek Lalonde praised his team for exceeding expectations and putting themselves in a position to compete for a playoff spot in the final game of the regular season.

Raymond’s winning goal in overtime, coming after hitting the post twice earlier in the extra period, sparked joyous celebrations among his teammates and the passionate fans at Little Caesars Arena.

Brendan Gallagher scored two goals for the Canadiens, while Sam Montembeault made 30 saves in a game that saw the Canadiens take an early lead.

Compher’s goals in the first and second periods helped the Red Wings narrow the deficit, with Alex DeBrincat adding another goal in the third period.

Despite a rocky start by Alex Lyon, who allowed two early goals, the Red Wings rallied to secure the win, cheered on by their dedicated fans at home.
