Chase Claypool is now part of a new team in the AFC East. The Bills have officially signed Claypool to a one-year contract, bringing in an experienced wide receiver.

Claypool, who is 25 years old, played for both the Bears and the Dolphins last season. Across 12 games with these teams, he made eight catches for 77 yards and scored one touchdown. His time with the Bears in 2023 was limited to just three games, while he played in nine games for the Dolphins, mostly on special teams.

Drafted by the Steelers in the second round in 2020, Claypool had a strong start to his career. In his rookie year, he caught 62 passes for 873 yards and scored nine touchdowns, along with two rushing touchdowns. His performance in 2021 saw him make 59 receptions for 860 yards and two touchdowns.

However, his performance declined in 2022 while he was with the Steelers. He only caught 32 passes for 311 yards and scored one touchdown in eight games before he was traded for the first time. Since leaving Pittsburgh, he hasn’t been as effective.

With Stefon Diggs traded and Gabe Davis leaving in free agency, Claypool will bring more competition to the receivers group.

Buffalo has also confirmed that defensive end Dawuane Smoot and linebacker Deion Jones have signed one-year deals with the team. Although Jones’s signing was already reported, Smoot, who is 29 years old, joins Buffalo after spending the last seven seasons with the Jaguars. He has accumulated 23.5 career sacks, along with 27 tackles for loss and 64 quarterback hits.
