During the opening day of the 2024 French Open, Naomi Osaka had her seventh appearance in Paris and managed to secure a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory in the first round against Lucia Bronzetti.

Osaka, who is ranked No. 134, admitted feeling nervous during her challenging win, mentioning, “There were moments I played pretty well, but I was pretty nervous and got really tight.”

Bronzetti, ranked No. 48, has struggled in previous appearances at Roland Garros and has a career record of 3-10 in Grand Slam tournaments. In her recent match at the Morocco Open quarterfinals, she lost despite leading 5-0 in the third set against Peyton Stearns.

In other matches, Dayan Yastremska defeated Ajla Tomljanovic, while Lesia Tsurenko had to forfeit against Donna Vekic due to a back problem after playing less than a set.

Andrey Rublev throws his racket out of frustation

In the men’s draw, Andrey Rublev, ranked No. 6, defeated Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 7-5, although he showed frustration by throwing his racket during the match.

Lorenzo Sonego caused an upset by defeating No. 17 Ugo Humbert 4-6, 6-2, 4-6, 3-6. Humbert was the highest-ranked French player in the tournament.

Brandon Nakashima also secured a victory.

On Sunday, scheduled matches include two-time major winner Carlos Alcaraz and a night session featuring Andy Murray against Stan Wawrinka, both owning three Slam titles each.
