Christian Yelich had a big game for the Milwaukee Brewers, getting five hits and driving in five runs to help his team secure a 12-5 victory over the struggling Chicago White Sox on Friday night.
The Brewers’ 23 hits in the game are the most by any team in the league this season.
Several other Brewers players also had solid performances at the plate, including Brice Turang, William Contreras, and Sal Frelick, each contributing with three hits. Yelich, in particular, stood out with two doubles and a stolen base.
Yelich mentioned how difficult it is to get hits consistently in baseball, especially to find gaps in the defense five times in one game. This was the fifth time in his career he achieved such a feat.
Despite not hitting any home runs, the Brewers managed to tie their season-high of 12 runs, showing their ability to score in various ways.
On the other hand, the White Sox continue to struggle, losing their ninth consecutive game and 13 out of their last 14, dropping to a record of 15-43. Michael Soroka took the loss, allowing three runs in just one inning of relief.
The game saw multiple lead changes early on, but the Brewers broke it open with a six-run seventh inning after trailing 5-4. This surge included key hits from Turang, Contreras, Yelich, Jake Bauers, and Frelick.
Manager Pat Murphy praised his team’s resilience, emphasizing their ability to stay focused and keep putting themselves in scoring positions despite facing challenges.
The Brewers initially took a 1-0 lead, but the White Sox responded with a three-run third inning. However, Milwaukee regained the lead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs off Chicago’s starter Erick Fedde, with Yelich delivering a crucial two-run single.
