Major League Baseball is considering a return to having players wear their own team uniforms for the All-Star Game.

From 1933 to 2019, the American League and from 1934 to 2019, the National League used club uniforms.

When the game resumed in 2021 after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, MLB had started a uniform contract with Nike and Fanatics. All-Stars wore specially designed league uniforms, which received criticism from those who prefer traditional styles.

This year, the AL uniforms were sandy-colored with red sleeves and lettering, while the NL uniforms had a navy base with light blue sleeves and lettering.

“I understand the feelings about this matter,” Manfred told the Baseball Writers’ Association of America on Tuesday.

“I think we’ll have a discussion about this after the All-Star Game. We have various uniform initiatives underway. Of course, the conversations need to include the players first and foremost, as well as Nike and our other partners. But I understand why people appreciate that tradition.”

MLB and Nike faced criticism for the club uniforms this year. In May, they announced that the 2025 club uniforms will feature larger lettering on the back of jerseys and more options for customizing pants.

Players raised concerns this year about the white pants worn by some teams being see-through enough to reveal tucked-in jersey tops.
