Scottish team Celtic signed goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to a one-year contract on Thursday.

The 37-year-old Schmeichel played a key role in Leicester City’s victories in the Premier League in 2016 and the FA Cup in 2021, when current Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was in charge. After leaving Leicester in 2022, he spent last season with Anderlecht before joining French club Nice.

“Celtic is a renowned football club with a rich history of success and passionate supporters. It embodies the essence of football,” Schmeichel said in a statement.

“I have a strong relationship with Brendan as well. He is an excellent manager whom I am eager to collaborate with once more.”

Rodgers expressed confidence that Schmeichel’s presence will bring a positive influence to the team.

“Kasper is a top-quality goalkeeper with both skill and leadership qualities that will greatly benefit us,” Rodgers said on the Celtic website. “He is a player I trust, and his dedication to the game is evident. He joins a club where he will find the same level of passion that he holds for football.”
