Alex Bregman celebrates in the 9th inning

Alex Bregman hit a walk-off home run off Blake Treinen in the ninth inning that sailed over the left-field train tracks, and the Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 on Saturday night. This win came despite Shohei Ohtani hitting his National League-leading 32nd home run.

Houston was behind 5-0 in the sixth inning and 6-4 in the eighth before Yainer Diaz tripled off Daniel Hudson, and Jeremy Peña and Jon Singleton hit RBI singles.

Bregman connected with a 1-0 sinker from Treinen (5-3) for a 407-foot home run, his 14th of the season.

“Just trying to get something over the plate to put the ball in the air,” Bregman said. “Obviously, he’s a really good reliever, and he’s been one for a very long time. Just trying to get something I could put a good swing on, and I was fortunate to do that.”

This was Bregman’s second career walk-off home run, his first since June 27, 2018, against Toronto, and his fourth walk-off hit.

“It was awesome,” Bregman said. “Just to see the happiness on everybody’s faces in the dugout was awesome. I kind of blacked out.”

Shohei Ohtani watches his solo home run

Josh Hader (4-5) pitched a perfect ninth inning for the Astros (55-49), who have won three games in a row and 22 of their last 33.

“You always go back throughout the season and you think about big moments, big wins, big games, and this is one of those you reflect on,” Houston manager Joe Espada said. “How this team stays collected and unified and able to come through, it’s impressive.”

The Dodgers (62-44) have lost three of their last four games after a five-game winning streak.

Cavan Biggio hit an RBI double in the second inning, and Ohtani increased the lead in the third with a 443-foot drive into the second level in right field, a 118.7 mph hit according to Statcast.

Gavin Lux and Teoscar Hernández had RBI singles in the fifth inning, and Biggio homered in the eighth, his fourth home run of the season and second with the Dodgers.
