The Dallas Cowboys are still in touch with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is not participating in training camp while trying to secure a new contract, said owner Jerry Jones on Friday.

“I wouldn’t comment on how close we are to reaching an agreement, but we’re all talking,” Jones said.

Lamb is in the final year of his rookie deal after being drafted 17th overall in 2020. Last season, he led the NFL in receptions (135), was second in receiving yards (1,749), and third in touchdown receptions (12).

Lamb missed minicamp in June, just after Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings signed a record-breaking contract for a non-quarterback.

Lamb and Jefferson are similar in career stats, having been drafted close to each other in the first round in 2020.

Lamb’s representatives argue he deserves a high-value deal because he has improved his stats in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns each year.

Despite Lamb’s absence from camp, the offense has adjusted, with third-year receiver Jalen Tolbert getting more practice time. Quarterback Dak Prescott hopes Lamb will return soon.

“My birthday just passed, and he sent me a great ‘happy birthday’ message, which led to some talks,” Prescott said. “He told me he wants to come back soon, and I’m hopeful we’ll have him back with us quickly. He’s working hard and eager to rejoin the team.”
