Deshaun Watson’s next game is planned.
Cleveland’s quarterback, who has not played since breaking his shoulder last November in a game at Baltimore, is set to play in the Browns’ preseason finale on August 24 in Seattle.
Coach Kevin Stefanski shared his plans for Watson before practice on Monday. Watson did not play in the Browns’ first preseason game against Green Bay last weekend and will also miss this week’s home game against Minnesota.
Watson will also participate in some practice sessions against the Vikings on Wednesday and Thursday. Stefanski mentioned that Watson has been medically cleared for contact, but quarterbacks are usually not involved in joint practices.
Watson has been recovering well from surgery and, at times, has even progressed faster than expected.
He has been throwing almost every day in training camp and looks set to start the regular-season opener against Dallas on September 8.
The 28-year-old Watson started only six games last season before suffering a fractured glenoid bone against the Ravens. He played the entire second half with the injury and completed all 14 of his passes, leading the Browns to a 33-31 victory.
Watson had surgery a few days later, and the Browns signed free agent Joe Flacco, who helped them reach the playoffs.
Stefanski plans to use the same strategy as in previous years and have his starters play a bit in the preseason finale.
