Marc Ramsay’s international boxing stable, which includes Artur Beterbiev and Christian Mbilli, is adding Belarusian lightweight Dzmitry Asanau to his Montreal-based gym.

Asanau (7-0, 3 KOs) will make his debut in Canada against Argentina’s Alexis Gabriel Camejo. This fight is part of the Christian Mbilli-Sergiy Derevyanchenko event on Saturday night at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City.

After starting his career in Hamburg, Germany, where he was not widely known, Ramsay feels it was an obvious decision to sign Asanau.

“He’s a very good fighter, and we already know he had a great amateur career,” Ramsay told FightsATW. “It was a no-brainer for us to sign him. He’s very disciplined and a good kid. I had the chance to work with him for two weeks to see his profile and how he works. It gave me a better idea of what kind of person he is, and, as I said, it was a no-brainer.”

Asanau, 28, won a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2015 and a silver at the European Games the same year. He also earned gold medals at the 2019 European Games and the World Military Boxing Championship in 2021, rounding off a remarkable amateur career.

“He has all the tools to succeed as a professional fighter,” Ramsay said. “He’s a great technician. We were all very excited here in Montreal about signing Dzmitry. I spoke to Camille Estephan about his ability, and I recommended him to the company.

“When we sign a fighter, it’s because we believe he will succeed, but there are many challenges along the way.

Because of his age, weight category, amateur experience, and the fact he already has a ten-round fight under his belt, we’ll find out soon if he can become a champion. We’re not going to spend time on six-round fights. We want him in significant fights quickly.”
