As the Chiefs prepare for the regular season, they still need to decide who will be the cornerback opposite Trent McDuffie on their starting defense.

Last season, L’Jarius Sneed played that position, but he was traded to the Titans. The main candidates for the role have faced injuries this summer. Jaylen Watson has been out with a labrum injury, and Nazeeh Johnson just returned to game action after a long absence. This has given Joshua Williams many opportunities recently.

On Monday, head coach Andy Reid discussed the cornerback competition. He mentioned that if Watson can’t claim the position, the team might use a combination of players.

“We have some guys who can play,” Reid said. “We need to see Jaylen get out there; if he can play, then he’ll play and we’ll see how he performs. Some of the other players have developed well and shown promise. It might end up being a group effort, but there is talent there.”

The Chiefs have managed many lineup changes in recent years and their three Super Bowl wins show their ability to adapt. This should give them confidence that they can handle the cornerback situation as the season progresses.
