The Los Angeles Chargers have solidified their trust in kicker Cameron Dicker by signing him to a multiyear contract extension. The team announced on Friday that Dicker’s new deal is for four years and worth $22.04 million, with $12.5 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This extension underscores the Chargers’ confidence in Dicker’s abilities and contributions to the team.
Cameron Dicker’s performance in the 2023 season was a key factor in the Chargers’ decision to extend his contract. He proved to be one of the most reliable players on the roster, notably setting a franchise record by making seven field goals from 50 yards or more. His consistency and clutch kicking made him an invaluable asset to the team.
Dicker’s journey to this point has been anything but straightforward. After going undrafted out of the University of Texas in 2022, he bounced between three different teams during his rookie season. His break came when he joined the Chargers in Week 7, filling in after an injury to their then-starter, Dustin Hopkins.
Last offseason, Dicker faced stiff competition from Hopkins for the starting kicker position during training camp. Dicker ultimately won the job, leading to the Chargers trading Hopkins to the Cleveland Browns. This move affirmed the Chargers’ belief in Dicker as their go-to kicker moving forward.
Dicker’s popularity has soared, both among fans and within the organization. A video released by the Chargers campaigning for Dicker’s Pro Bowl selection further boosted his profile. Coach Jim Harbaugh has also spoken highly of Dicker, praising his confidence and professionalism, and even expressing a desire to emulate the way Dicker approaches life and his career.
