The New York Giants have re-signed veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson to a one-year contract, as confirmed by ESPN. Jackson, who is 28 years old, has played with the Giants for the past three seasons and has a history with the team’s new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen from their previous time with the Tennessee Titans.

Despite Jackson’s tenure with the Giants, his performance has been affected by injuries and inconsistent tackling, leading to speculation that the team might move on from him.

This re-signing occurs just nine days before the Giants’ season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, indicating a strategic move by the team to address their cornerback needs. Prior to this, the Giants were considering other options like Nick McCloud or Cor’Dale Flott for the cornerback position opposite second-year starter Deonte Banks. The decision to bring Jackson back highlights the team’s urgency to solidify their defense.

General Manager Joe Schoen had previously mentioned the importance of continually evaluating and upgrading all positions, with a particular focus on cornerback depth. Schoen noted that many teams are actively seeking quality cornerbacks due to the difficulty in finding good players in this position. In addition to re-signing Jackson, the Giants also added cornerbacks Duke Shelley and Art Green to their practice squad to further bolster their defensive lineup.

Before Jackson’s re-signing, McCloud seemed to be the leading candidate for a starting role due to his strong summer performance. McCloud’s versatility allows him to play both inside and outside positions and contribute on special teams. In contrast, Flott struggled with a quad injury and had inconsistent performances, especially on the outside, which likely influenced the Giants’ decision to retain Jackson.

Jackson’s performance statistics from the previous season show he allowed 65% of passes to be completed against him, with eight passes defended. Over his seven-year career, Jackson has accumulated 83 games played, 77 starts, four interceptions, and one touchdown. The Giants’ decision to re-sign him reflects their confidence in his experience and potential for improvement as they prepare for the new NFL season.
