Quinn Ewers has now led Texas to victories in two of the most challenging stadiums in college football over the past two seasons.
Ewers passed for 246 yards and three touchdowns, guiding No. 3 Texas to a decisive 31-12 win over No. 10 Michigan on Saturday. This followed the Longhorns’ win at Alabama last year.
“I just enjoy big moments,” Ewers said.
With this win, Texas became the first team since Notre Dame in 1979 and 1980 to defeat both Michigan and Alabama on the road in consecutive seasons, according to Sportradar.
Texas (2-0) dominated both in the air and on the ground against the defending national champions, while Michigan (1-1) struggled with turnovers and was ineffective on offense.
This game ended several Michigan streaks. They had won 29 consecutive regular-season games, 23 straight home games, and 16 games in a row before losing to TCU in the 2022 College Football Playoff.
Despite these setbacks, defensive end Josaiah Stewart noted that the expanded 12-team playoff system still gives Michigan a chance to compete for the national title.
“Our season’s not over, so one loss doesn’t kick us out of the playoff like it probably would last year,” Stewart said.
Davis Warren, who was 22 of 33 for 204 yards, threw a touchdown after the game was decided and had two interceptions. Colston Loveland, a preseason All-American tight end, caught eight passes for 70 yards but also had an unforced fumble.
“It was on us,” Warren said. “They’re a good football team, they played well today, but we shot ourselves in the foot and let them win that football game.”
After the game, linebacker David Gbenda tried to plant Texas’ white flag with an orange longhorn into the maize block M at midfield, but it didn’t stay in the ground.
