Caitlin Clark set a career-high with 35 points and eight assists, while Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points, as they both played a key role in Indiana’s 110-109 win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday. The pair hit 12 of Indiana’s 16 3-pointers in the game.
Clark, who holds the record for most assists in a single WNBA season with 329, has also set a rookie record with 761 points this season, surpassing the previous mark of 744 set by Seimone Augustus in 2006.
With this win, Indiana (20-19) secured the No. 6 seed for the playoffs, which start next Sunday. The Fever will face the third-seeded Connecticut Sun in the first round. The Sun won three of the four games played between the teams during the regular season.
Indiana matched its franchise record for single-game scoring and tied its season high for 3-pointers made. The Fever shot 38 of 76 from the field, 47% from beyond the arc, and 18 of 21 (86%) from the free-throw line.
Clark scored a driving layup, then stole the ball and made another layup to give the Fever a 90-86 lead with 6:35 remaining. After Teaira McCowan scored to close the gap, Clark hit two consecutive 3-pointers and added a free throw, making it 97-88 with four minutes left.
Arike Ogunbowale scored to start an 8-0 run that brought the Wings within a point with 2:27 left. Mitchell responded with a 3-pointer from an inbounds pass by Clark. After Satou Sabally scored for the Wings, Damiris Dantas hit two quick 3-pointers, putting Indiana ahead 106-98 with a minute remaining.
Ogunbowale then assisted Natasha Howard for a jumper and completed a 3-point play to make it a one-possession game with 41 seconds to go. Clark and Aliyah Boston each made two free throws to secure the win, despite 3-pointers from Ogunbowale and Sabally in the final seconds.
